crise de foie

in france, they have this thing called crise de foie. i think only the french admit to suffer from excess, because that's basically what it is. literally translated, it means liver crisis.

in essence, a crise de foie is what happens the day after having eaten really rich foods. you know, the way you feel the day after eating a lot of fat or grease, salt or sugar. queasy: aching head, puffy face, mild vomiting and diarrhea painful enough from muscle cramps.

it's a perfectly acceptable excuse to use to call into work in france. i wish it was the same here because sometimes, i do go overboard with foods and am willing to pay the consequences.

i ate food delivered from el boriquen cafe, a puerto rican resto specializing in jibarito sandwiches. what makes these sandwiches so special is that instead of bread, it is served on fried plaintains slathered in garlic and dusted with salt. filled with garlic alioli, lettuce, tomato, steak and cheddar cheese, it packs a flavorful taste sensation. add the special jibarito salsa to it and it's a spicy symphony!

for overkill, i got a side order of tostones (because honestly, they're awesome!) and arroz con gandules (rice with pigeon peas). again, eating it with jibarito salsa makes 150 times better.

i love having puerto rican food delivered. i love garlic. i love fried foods. and i love steak. however, it is all a little too greasy. so greasy in fact, i suffered from a crise de foie.
